How to Vote in Detroit

There are more ways than ever to vote in Detroit – and they’re all secure, accessible, and designed to meet you where you are. Whether you prefer to vote from home, early in person, or on Election Day, you have options.

Your Voting Options

  • Vote From Home

    Voting from home is easy and reliable. If you’re already on the Permanent Absentee Ballot list, you’ll automatically receive your ballot before each election.

    Not on the list? You can request an absentee ballot online or by visiting the Detroit Department of Elections.

    Once you receive it, take your time to review and return it by mail, in person, or via a secure drop box in your community. Then you can track your ballot every step of the way!

  • Vote Early In Person

    Want to cast your ballot in person before Election Day? Detroit offers early in-person voting starting nine days before Election Day. During this period, you can vote at the Department of Elections or any official Early Vote Center, no matter where you live in the city. Early voting hours may vary by location.

    Early Voting for August Primary: July 26 - August 4, 2025

    Early Voting for November General: October 25 - November 3, 2025

  • Vote On Election Day

    Prefer to vote on Election Day?

    Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on both Tuesday, August 5 (Primary) and Tuesday, November 4 (General Election).

    If you’re not registered to vote yet, you can register and vote all in one trip by heading to the Detroit Department of Elections on Election Day.
